Overall, it’s a super enjoyable game and definitely worth playing. Astro Bot is a platform video game developed by Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. It features an adorable robot hero on a mission to rescue his scattered crew across the universe. Astro Bot also doubles as a celebration of all things PlayStation. Every power is interesting, has a meaningful impact on the level it’s a part of, and feels like it unlocks a new way to play. While some return from previous Astro outings and others are quite standard, there is a unique flair to how they feed into the level design here. Though completing levels will spawn new ones within the same solar system, there are also hidden mini-levels. You can unearth these by flying into the comets and meteors scattered around, especially once you’ve completed most of the bigger main levels in a zone.
From time-bending casinos to Japanese bath houses, each level brings novel mechanics and creative challenges that rival Nintendo’s finest platformers. A few months ago, Sony issued a free DLC (downloadable content) for “Astro’s Playroom” that connects the previous game with the new one. Since all PS5 consoles come with “Astro’s Playroom” for free, it’s more than likely that “Astro Bot” will become a big hit for Sony. This is because every console owner has played the previous installment and are likely to want more from the character. It takes you through deserts, across volcanos, inside dojos, to outer space, up mountains, down rivers, and both visually and mechanically, offers something new every time that always hits the mark.
Sony proves with Astro Bot that the company can still put out charming action platformers, but the love letter to PlayStation fans fails to include features that made previous games of the genre so fun to replay. In each level, the main objective is to rescue Astro’s crew, scattered throughout the game’s five worlds and twenty levels. Players also face bosses at the end of each world, which require a certain number of rescued bots to challenge. While playing the levels, the player can find hidden chameleons, which unlock a further 26 challenge levels with two golden Bots to collect.

Set across over 80 gorgeous worlds, Astro Bot will rely on a handful of abilities that are tailored made to each stage. One ability that is also used sparingly is the Sponge, which has you soaking up water and becoming a massive version of Astro Bot. Still, why the Mouse ability is only used a single time is bizarre, given that some abilities are used nearly a dozen times. Astro Bot is, at its core, a game built out of sheer creativity. Damn rights it does, but it puts them on display with a rare confidence few studios could pull off. Astro Bot revels in showing the player something new around almost every corner.
This year has been a very special journey for us at Team Asobi, and we thank you for joining us. Until next time, we wish you a very relaxing and restful end of the year, full of gaming of course, but above all, full of good health and happiness all around. I’ve played all of the GOTY nominees, except FF VII Rebirth, this year. Sure, the variety of emotions, the adrenaline rush of combat, the awe of exploring, and such that comes with playing these RPGs is unmatched. However, I have to say that the delight, the sense of pure joy, and the wholesomeness I got out of playing Astro Bot was truly unmatched and unforgettable. Join Astro Bot on an unforgettable journey through imaginative worlds and discover why it’s the most celebrated platformer of 2024.
I’ve only spent an hour with it, so far, but I can already say there’s a good chance this will be my GotY. I was smiling like an idiot the entire time and loving every second of it and its charm. The dev that was interviewed even said specifically “I only make kids games” which is confirmed by the age rating of 7. For luck8 nhà cái want a game I can invest time in to enjoy for at least 2 weeks with a script and story that I will sit and ponder and go “wow” like the original horizon zero dawn or the last of us and remember for years. Astrobot does a great job but even if I am fine with the few that gave 10s then the 9s of those going oh it’s not game of the year material. Same with racing, my favourite racing games are from the past because modern ones suck.
Platformers like Kirby and the Forgotten Land are at their best when they’re introducing new ideas that consistently surprise players. They tend to lag in their back halves when they’ve played all their cards, but have more levels to go. Even Astro Bot dips into that in its final world as it begins repeating power-ups and enemy types. It doesn’t have trouble keeping its double dips to a minimum, though.
IGN, among other major gaming outlets, praised ASTRO BOT’s revolutionary approach to platforming. The game’s success at The Game Awards 2024 ceremony marks a new era for PlayStation Studios and Team ASOBI. You’ll need a PlayStation 5 console and sufficient storage space (approximately 50GB). The game is optimized for play on 4K displays but supports all PS5-compatible displays. Astro bot Rescue Mission (VR ONE) is still the MOST transformative game I’ve played in my adult life. If you’ve become jaded or gaming bores you, it’ll legit make you feel like a kid playing games for the first time again. That feeling that desentized adults have to take drugs to feel, I kid you not.
Not only are all of the aspects amazing, from its catchy music and great sound effects, the game actually uses the controller’s speakers perfectly as well. There’s not much else to say about it except that it’s pretty much perfect for the game’s vibe and presentation. Got the plat shortly after release (couldnt stop playing it) and flipped it to a friend. I will be asking for a loan in a few months when a couple more of the speed run levels drop. @2huwman Just let people be lolPushSquare has the guide out on Day 1 because they compete with other organizations who do the same thing and their guides will be out on Day 1 so it’s kinda like a little competition. If people want to “ruin their experience” as you say, then let them.
Filled with references to hardware throughout PlayStation’s history and boasting an abundance of cameo appearances from popular characters, Astro’s Playroom celebrated PlayStation’s history in a unique way. This made Astro not just the new kid on the block, but established the bot as a character integral to the PlayStation brand. This became The Playroom, Team Asobi’s first game. The Playroom came preloaded with the PS4 when it launched back in 2013 and functioned as a showcase of what the PlayStation Camera and DualShock 4 controller could do. One of the mini games featured was AR Bots, a tech demo-like experience that made it seem as if 40 little robots were inside the DualShock 4. By swiping the touchpad you could throw them into the room and interact with them through the PlayStation Camera in AR, before sucking them back into the controller.
